Search Engine Optimization |
|   |
Here at DotComKingdom we believe that website promotions begin with Search Engine Optimization (SEO). It's for that reason that most every premium domain name we sell is already optimized for top search engine placement! What is SEO? Simply put, Search Engine Optimization is the art of building your website in such a way that the major search engines rank it highly for the keywords that you optimize on. For instance, if you are selling automobile tires, you want to talk about car tires, truck tires and buggy tires in the text of your website. You'll also want to include these terms in the meta tags and image tags on all the different pages of your website. Optimize each page for only 2 or 3 keywords for the best results and build lots of pages to get all of your keywords ranked. This is an important step in promoting your website and should not be glossed over.
As you optimize your website, be careful not to 'overuse' your keywords or the search engines may consider it spam and penalize you by ranking you lower. Experts agree that your keywords should make up roughly 3-5% of the total text on any given page. Of course, the search engines are forever changing their algorythms and so should your website change accordingly. Search engines love fresh content so you should be changing your website as often as possible anyway. This can be easily accomplished by including more and more pages to cover all of your keywords and then writing a short summary of the new inclusions on your homepage with links to the new material. When the search engines see that you are an active expert in your field they will naturally rank you higher.
Another form of SEO is building links both internally and externally to other related sites. Search Engines like to see other related sites linking back to you and count this as a 'vote' of confidence that the searching public will also like what you have to offer. You should be wary of getting links from link farms (FFA) and other link building schemes as the search engines may penalize you for link spamming. Concentrate on exchanging links with high quality and highly ranked websites that are related in some way to what you offer. Just one link to one of these quality websites can be worth hundreds of links to lesser quality sites.
There are many other considerations when optimizing your website for high search engine rankings. If you're just starting out you might want to pick up a book on the topic or perhaps subscribe to an SEO newsletter. There's a lot to learn but if you can pull it all together the rewards are well worth it in the long run. |
